About the project

exhibition, november 2005

The artwork exhibited in ‘facing-up’ was created by young offenders working alongside me as part of a reparative process with Oxfordshire Youth Offending Service. The artwork was either given to the person harmed by their offence or auctioned on the opening night of the exhibition in aid of BBC Children in Need. Stephen Fontaine and I jointly curated ‘facing-up’ which opened on 12 November 2005 at the newly refurbished BBC Oxford studios. Guests who attended the opening night included: magistrates, police, councillors, young offenders and their families, people harmed, staff from the BBC and Oxfordshire and other Youth Offending services. During the week running up to the event Stephen Fontaine organised a ‘Youth Justice Week’ at BBC Oxford with a week long series of pieces on Radio Oxford on 95.2FM and a piece on BBC South. The event attracted local, regional and national media attention. The exhibition was jointly funded and supported by Oxfordshire Youth Offending Service and BBC Oxford. Some of the media coverage
